Pleasantness is not holiness, and niceness is not a fruit of the Spirit. In many Christian homes, children are taught to avoid offense, preserve the tone of the room, and be “like Jesus,” while never being taught what to do with evil, how to discern falsehood, or why biblical love sometimes wounds before it heals. Niceness Is Not a Christian Virtue is a hard look at the false christ of sentimentality, the danger of truthless love, and the kind of moral confusion that leaves children polite, vulnerable, and spiritually unguarded.
